Today's lesson:

- book p 79: grammar "comparison of adjectives"
- book p 80: listening & speaking "The most valuable ..."


The comparative of adjectives is formed in the following way:

Short adjectives (1 syllable):

ADJECTIVE + er / est

cheap - cheaper - cheapest
nice - nicer - nicest

Long adjectives (3 or more syllables):

more / most + ADJECTIVE

beau|ti|ful - more beautiful - most beautiful
ex|pen|sive - more expensive - most expensive


Special case - adjectives with 2 syllables:

adjectives ending in "y", "le", "ow", "er" > short adjectives

happy - happier - happiest
gentle - gentler - gentlest
shallow - shallower - shallowest
clever - cleverer - cleverest

all other endings > long adjectives

care|ful - more careful - most careful
use|less - more useless - most useless

Irregular comparison:

good - better - best
bad - worse - worst
