Today's lesson:
- book p 76: listening "Shopping"
- book p 77: vocabulary "clothes"
- grammar revision: questions
In English, questions ALWAYS follow a very strict word order:
(question word) | auxiliary verb* | person | action (= verb) | (...) | ?
Are they watching TV now ?
What is he waiting for ?
When will she come home ?
Would you like some tea ?
Where do you live ?
Does Peter work in London ?
* There are different groups of AUXILIARY VERBS:
Es gibt verschiedene Gruppen von HILFSVERBEN:
>> am, is, are, was, were
>> can, may, must, would, should, could, will, shall
>> do, does, did
These groups are EXCLUSIVE!!! You can ONLY use an auxiliary verb of ONE GROUP!!!
i.e:
- if there is an "am, is, are, was, were" in your sentence, you MUST use "am, is, are, was were" in your question!
- if there is "can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" in your sentence, you MUST use "can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" in your question!
- ONLY if there is NO "am, is, are, was, were, can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" in your sentence, you MUST use "do", "does" ( >> 'he, she, it - das S muss mit') or "did" (Vergangenheit)!
Diese Gruppen schließen sich gegenseitig aus!!! Es kann immer nur mit einem Hilfsverb aus einer Gruppe gefragt werden.
d.h.
- wenn "am, is, are, was, were" im Satz vorkommt, MUSS die Frage mit "am, is, are, was were" gebildet werden!
- wenn "can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" im Satz vorkommt, MUSS die Frage mit "can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" gebildet werden!
- NUR wenn KEIN "am, is, are, was, were, can, may, must, could, would, should, will, shall" im Satz vorkommt, MUSS die Frage mit "do", "does" ( >> 'he, she, it - das S muss mit') oder "did" (Vergangenheit) gebildet werden!
