24 Apr 2014

VHS Hall Fr 10:00-11:40 - Fri 25 Apr

What we did:

- reading: book, page 142

- complaints: book, page 145
- talking about TV: book, page 148/149

- Present Perfect Progressive

have/has + been + "ing"-form

We use the Present Perfect Progressive to emphasize that something has been going on (continuously) for a longer period of time. We especially use this tense for complaints:

Waiter, I've been waiting for my soup for almost an hour!
It's been raining since we arrived. What a terrible holiday!

Remember:

for - a period of time: We ask "How long?" (for an hour, for a long time)
since - a point in time: We ask "When?" (since last week, since Monday, since we came here)
[Eselsbrücke: Zeitpunkt - i-Punkt: "since" hat ein i > das i hat einen i-Punkt > Zeitpunkt!)

Homework:

- Write a SHORT description of two or three TV programmes you have seen recently (the kind of text you would find in a TV guide; 2 or 3 sentences are enough!)

DON'T FORGET: THERE WILL BE NO LESSON NEXT FRIDAY!
Our next lesson is on 9 May!
